How to test the battery capacity of a rechargeable desk lamp?

Aug 04, 2022

Our wireless charging desk lamps come with batteries of different capacities in different styles.

Battery capacity is an important indicator to measure battery quality.

There are many ways to test the capacity of rechargeable batteries.

According to the discharge curve of the battery, a short-term discharge can be performed to roughly obtain the battery capacity.

The biggest advantage of this method is that it is fast, but the discharge curve of rechargeable batteries is not universal, and the voltage of many inferior batteries is stable at the initial stage of discharge. will be very inaccurate.

The most reliable and accurate method is to discharge with a standard current and measure the actual discharge time in the whole process.

Depending on the discharge current, the amount of electricity that the rechargeable battery can finally release is different, and there is a certain gap.

There is a unified standard for the capacity labeling of batteries.

At present, the most used are 10-hour rate discharge capacity and 20-hour rate discharge capacity.

The 10-hour rate discharge capacity means that the battery is discharged at a constant current, and the discharge time can be maintained for about 10 hours until the power is exhausted. to zero.

Excessive discharge of the battery will lead to a reduction in battery capacity, irreversible recovery, or even premature damage and complete failure.

Therefore, each type of battery discharge termination voltage has strict regulations, which can be found in relevant information.

Over-discharge and over-charging are the main reasons for the failure of rechargeable batteries to reach their service life and early scrapping).

For the real-time discharge measurement method, if the continuous discharge time is at least 5 hours with a 10-hour rate current during the measurement process.
