Custom Material Selection for Rechargeable Desk Lamps

Nov 07, 2025

Rechargeable desk lamps are commonly made of iron or aluminum. Below is an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of these two materials.

1. Cost Analysis

The lamp body accounts for the majority of the total cost. Iron is more cost-effective than aluminum, so iron-made lamps have a lower production cost.

2. Customization Difficulty

Aluminum has low hardness and high plasticity. It is suitable for circular designs but poses higher difficulty and cost for square shapes.

Aluminum lamps are relatively expensive. To reduce costs, aluminum alloy can be used with custom aluminum profiles-this requires mold opening, which is only feasible for large-batch production (minimum order quantity of 500 units or more).

Aluminum molds are more expensive than iron molds. Iron has low plasticity but lower cost. Custom shapes usually require mold opening, with cheaper mold fees and the same minimum order quantity requirement (500 units or more).

3. Color Customization

Both iron and aluminum can undergo spray painting and electroplating.

Aluminum can also be anodized, a process not applicable to iron.

Anodization and electroplating require pure aluminum; aluminum alloys may cause uneven color and chromatic aberration after surface treatment.

Iron is easier to electroplate with no strict purity requirements, and iron alloys are acceptable.

Material Selection Guidelines

Material selection and mold opening decisions depend on three key factors: customer budget, acceptable minimum order quantity, and application scenario. For outdoor use, aluminum is preferred for its rust resistance.
